Epirus Polyphony comes to Berlin!
We are thrilled to welcome Thanasis Viltaniotis of the Polyphonic Association of Pogoni (Epirus, Greece) for a two-day block workshop dedicated to the folk polyphonic singing of Epirus, as part of the 13th Kreuzberger HofFestSpiele at Theater Expedition Metropolis.
This unique vocal tradition from northwestern Greece is based on deeply communal and regionally rooted expression, passed down through generations. Through practical and embodied learning, participants will get the opportunity to experience and understand the main roles and dynamics of Epirus Polyphony — and to engage with one of the most ancient vocal forms still alive in Europe today.
The workshop is open to all curious voices – no prior experience is necessary, but openness to deep listening and polyphonic encounters in a wider group of voices is key.
The workshop series is curated by Dimitra Kandia (Perperúna Ensemble, Polyphonic Laboratory) | Contact & Pre-registration:

“From the moment I first encountered the polyphonic song of Epirus, I had one goal: to share it with every person I meet, in every way possible. When Dimitra Kandia of the vocal group Perperúna and the Polyphonic Laboratory invited me to Berlin, I felt that this was one such special call. After meeting in Pogoni over Easter for an artistic residency and singing together, it is now time to bring our voice to Berlin – the local sound of Pogoni, far from its homeland, but close to those who wish to experience and learn it.” – Thanasis Viltaniotis (Polyphonic Association of Pogoni)
